Watershed Conservation Authority held a series of eight workshops in the foothills overlooking Azusa from November 2022 to January 2023. The suggestions and feedback of community members collected over the course these events are being synthesized into recommendations for building a community centered stewardship and access program for WCA's Azusa Foothills Open Space lands.  Click here for video excerpts from the workshops. 

This series of workshops is part of the development of a stewardship plan for Azusa Foothills Lands funded by a Rivers and Mountains Conservancy grant for acquisition of land for public benefit in the Azusa foothills. Thank you to all our workshop leaders, and to Azusa Beautiful.

Due to heat, drought, and active local fires, River Wilderness Park (at 100 N. Old San Gabriel Canyon Rd.) will be closed August 30th through September 11th 2022. 

With the re-opening of the River Wilderness Park and the Angeles National Forest on September 23, 2021, WCA would like to remind visitors to continue to recreate responsibly. The fire danger level remains at "Extreme!" For those looking to beat the heat, visitors to the River Wilderness Park are reminded that there is never river access at this location. The Park is situated beneath dams that can release water into the river suddenly and without warning, creating dangerous conditions. Signs have been posted around the park guiding visitors to other nearby locations where they can get in the water. Thank you and stay safe!

Watershed Conservation Authority parks and trails that were closed due to Covid-19 are now open. 

The draft 2020 LA River Master Plan is available for a 60-day public comment review period. 

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), all WCA properties, parks, and trails are closed until further notice.

The public is invited to provide input on the future of recreation resources in the San Gabriel Canyon and Crystal Lake Recreation Area. The San Gabriel Canyon area encompasses 44 square miles that surround the Highway 39 corridor between Sierra Madre Avenue in Azusa and the Angeles Crest Highway. Crystal Lake Recreation Area is located 26 miles up Highway 39 north of Azusa.

During the workshop we will discuss potential recreation improvement opportunities.

The Angeles National Forest and the Watershed Conservation Authority (WCA) are developing the Recreation Master Plan for the San Gabriel Canyon Area and the Crustal Lake Recreation Area Redevelopment Plan through a collaborative partnership.

The Watershed Conservation Authority (WCA), as Lead Agency, has prepared a Final Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) (SCH#2013031056) for the Emerald Necklace Implementation Plan -Phase 1 and associated Mitigation Reporting and Monitoring Program in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Final PEIR serves as a programmatic document for a program that includes 15 projects that would close gaps in this regional recreational trails network and increase access to the trails to hundreds of thousands of people in the project area.

The Forest Service has extended the Comment Period on the Draft San Gabriel Mountains National Monument Management Plan & Environmental Assessment to November 1st.  There will be a Public Meeting on October 4th at Big Pine Lodge in Wrightwood and a second Meeting, held in Spanish, on October 13 in the city of South Gate.
